Unlike other systems and components that tell you when something is wrong, your car will never inform you when its suspension is misaligned. How exactly can you find out when your car is suffering from misalignment? At AutoStream Car Care, we want to make sure our customers have all the tools to take care of their vehicles, and we want to help you recognize when your car needs wheel realignment. Here are two methods you can use if you suspect misalignment in your vehicle:
Visit an Empty Parking Lot
If you ever suspect pulling in your vehicle, but it’s too subtle to tell, we recommend driving your vehicle in an empty, flat parking lot. This allows you to safely test for the problem without having to worry about other cars and obstacles. While driving slowly and with the steering wheel in a neutral position, let go of it and observe how your car reacts. If it drifts one way or another, then you’ll know your vehicle is suffering from pulling and potentially wheel misalignment. Driving with this issue is both frustrating and dangerous, so we highly recommend a realignment service as soon as possible.
Inspect the Steering Wheel
Before your next drive, take some time to inspect the steering wheel and your car’s wheels. Are the wheels faced forward when the steering wheel is in neutral? Or do you need to turn the steering wheel at odd angles for the wheels to be straight? If it’s the latter, you’ll know your car is suffering from misalignment. This can make driving awkward and uncomfortable, so we suggest service at your earliest convenience.
