Whenever your tire is damaged, the ideal scenario is to have it repaired, as the service is quick, affordable, and efficient. Unfortunately, tire repair may not always be an option, as a tire must have specific characteristics to qualify for repairs. If a badly damaged tire is repaired, it could leave the vehicle and its driver in danger. Here’s what we look for in a damaged tire and if it can be repaired or if it must be replaced:
Check The Damage Location
Due to your tire’s build, the only location it can receive repairs is the tread, as it is the most durable part of the tire. If there’s any damage on the sidewall or even the shoulder, your tire cannot be repaired and it must be replaced.
Also be wary of driving on a flat tire. Even if the damage is only located within the tread, driving on a flat could cause abrasions along the sidewall, quickly disqualifying an otherwise repairable tire. If you see the tire is too flat, make sure you have it towed to our location.
How Big is The Damage?
Is the damage located within the tread? Great, now we’ll need to inspect the size of the damage. Any damage on the tread cannot exceed ¼” in diameter. Anything larger than that will quickly disqualify the tire, even if the damage is located within the tread. If the damage is at or below ¼” and the internal parts are intact, then we’ll proceed with repairing your tire!
