Why is my Check Engine Light On?
Your check engine light can come on for a number of reasons. Just because the light came on does not mean there is a catastrophic failure; it could just mean you did not properly secure your gas cap after refilling your tank. Your car’s check engine warning light is connected to your cars internal computer system that monitors everything from your fuel cap to catalytic converter. If your check engine light comes on, we advise you to bring it into Autostream Car Care Center in Reisterstown, MD and have one of our ASE Certified Technicians take a look at it for you. We will hook your car up to an onboard diagnostic scanner and pinpoint the problem. From there, we will be able to tell you exactly what the warning light is indicating. Our techs will go over what the trouble codes mean and what we can do to correct the problem prior to any repairs being done.
Don’t wait to get to your car looked at when your check engine light comes on. You could end up with more costly repairs. Call (443) 313-8422, stop by, or schedule your appointment online.
The only way to really know why your check engine light is on is to hook it up to an OBD scanner. There are a handful of common trouble codes that will trigger your warning light. The most common culprit is your oxygen sensor. Next is your gas cap; if it loose or damaged, fuel vapors will leak and throw off your fuel system. The third most common problem would be your catalytic converter. Normally, with regular maintenance your catalytic converter should never fail. Failure is generally related to your o2 sensor or deteriorated sparkplug. Don’t let this happen to you, keep up with cars maintenance plan. If you don’t have one, one of our ASE Certified Technicians will help create a personalized maintenance plan that fits you and your vehicle.
